ABS Brakes

My 1992 Transport GT with 3.8 engine and ABS system needs a new flexi brake hose on the front offside caliper.

I have the new hose ready to fit but reading my Clymer manual on bleeding the brakes after fitting the new hose makes me hesitate.

Anyone got any tips/advice before I start. I do not have any fancy Tech1 gadgets to command the ABS system etc.

Whatever is in the book is overkill. I changed both hoses at different times and just arranged so the hose did not empty itself nor the master cylinder, then simply bled from the caliper afterwards in classic fashion, and all went fine without fuss. JUst make sure you have an ample reserve of brake fluid in the master and also at hand just in case you loose control at times.

One person has suggested partially depressing and holding the brake pedal down with a stick before starting to work on it, this closed the compensating port to prevent easy flow of brake fluid as you have the system open. If you do get air in ABS, the 1995 GM manual for abs brakes suggests the followiong:
Press the pedal to bleed, open valve, close it at end of stoke, release pedal,then repeat. Bleed rearmost valve on hydraulic modulator/master cyl assembly until clear of air, then bleed front valave. Bleed wheels in right rear, left reat, right front, left front. If pedal ok, your finished, but if mushy you have air in ABS. Start engine, run 10 secs, turn off. Repeat at least 5 times. DO NOT touch brake pedal as you do this as it inhibits cycling.Each start cycle actauites and homes the valves and motors in ABS, dislodging air inside. Re-bleed system asd above.

Thanks for the advice. Followed normal procedure and new hose fitted and brakes are fine. ABS system ok.
