I have a 98 JGC,4.0l,4x4,85k.Need tto replace muffler/tailpipe.The question I have is are the catalytic converter and muffler welded together?Or are they
a slip on fit with clamps?Also how difficult are they to seperate?Any advice greatly appreciated.Thanks. |

Just bend over and look under the passenger side of the Jeep. To answer your question, they're NOT welded together. All you need to do is unbolt the catalytic converter. Don't forget to remove the 2nd O2 sensor. BTW, I wouldn't bother messing with the catalytic converter. Just unbolt the muffler and tail pipe and have a new one welded to the existing flange and add tail piping if desired and bolt back into place.

Mine were, when i put on my 3" exhaust the pipe between the cat and the muffler was welded to each.
