stalls on reverse

my 97 maxima recently shuts off when placed on reverse. It normally would shut off when engine is cold either on dirve or reverse, but now it did it while engine was at normal temperture. any ideas.

Another issue is that at times the starter would not turn or click. I would have to wait over an hour after a drive before it starts.
