2000 Grand Am Serpentine Belt

My mother-in-law owns a 2000 grand am. she took it to a shop to get a oil change (because she is to stupid to have me do it), and they told her that her serpentine belt needed changing and that they do not do that on 2000 grand ams because you have to take off two of the engine mounts and lift up on the engine to change the belt. Is this true or are they full of it.

support the engine with a jack and a block of wood. Remove four bolts from the one engine mount (V6) and remove the mount. Use 1/2" breaker bar to remove tension from belt. Remove belt. Purchase new belt and reverse procedure. (going from memory here so if I have missed a detail go ahead and flame me)

yes you do need to remove the pass side motot mount.

Though its a 3/8' ratchetyou meed for the tensioner.

And Like Jim said use a block of wood on the bottom of the motor or it'll bust a hole in it

No it isn't bad at all. I just did a power steering pump on a 2000 v6 my buddy has. Just 4 nuts and two boltsand the new belt was on no problem.
