E30 316 wont run

HI peeps I looking for some advice.

I have a 1988 316 (1.8 webber carb) Auto.

The car has suddenly stopped starting or running .
I've had the AA look at it and they say it has a good fuel supply to the carb and the webber carb seems to be working fine.
The fault they have found is that the spark at the plugs is not regular (intermittent) , the Coil/Leeds/Plugs have been replaced... as well as the control unit ....but still no joy.

A friend of mine suggested the "crank possition" sensor..
My Question is
Does my car have one , with it not being an injection model.??
Could it be this ?????
If so Where is it located on the engine.??

Thanks for Any help ......I'm tearing my hair out...any help will prevent premature baldness.......

Hello, I am not familiar with your model, but if it does not have a distributor, just some sort of control module, then there must be a pickup to tell the module when to activate. Usually it is a crank-angle sensor I think, or could be a pick up of the camshaft even.

Best of luck,
