Buick Park Avenue 1992 Auto Dimming Mirror Wiring Information
I have an Electric Auto Dimming Rear View Mirror inside my 1992 Buick Park Avenue, and I have three wires that connect to the back of the mirror. The middle wire is Black, and the other two wires are Green and Pink. The Pink wire has the color black running down the middle of the Pink wire. I know that the black wire is used for the power because the color of it is Black. What are the Green and Pink wires used for?
This mirror also has a feature that when the shift lever is put into reverse, the dimming mirror get's disabled the whole time the vehicle is in reverse. Which wire would be for the reverse feature, the Green wire or the Pink wire? Last edited by **__**; 03-07-2007 at 04:58 PM. |

Re: Buick Park Avenue 1992 Auto Dimming Mirror Wiring Information
The other two wires controls the Electro Chromic Mirror. which dimms and brightens when theres light comming in..
There is a control module it manage the voltages on those wires , it handles the reverse feature with a light green wire comming from your transaxle shift position sensor. In other words night driving and day driving conditions. I test mine with it turned on and block the light with my hand or finger over the sensor.. Good Luck

The BLACK wire is a ground lead. The PINK/BLACK wire is a power lead connected to fuse #6 (15 amp)

Re: Buick Park Avenue 1992 Auto Dimming Mirror Wiring Information
I have two sockets in the back of my mirror for the wiring. For my mirror I only have one socket that is used for the Black, Pink/Black, and green wires. I checked out another parkavenue that wasn't fullyloaded, and it had the same mirror as my fullyloaded parkavenue has. I noticed that the mirror from the not-fullyloaded parkavenue had wiring for both sockets. In that mirror, one socket in the back of the mirror supplies three wires (black, Pink/Black, and green), and the other socket supplies two wires (a gray wire and a pink wire). In the back of my parkavenue Mirror, I only have one socket that is used for three wires ( the Black, Pink/Black, and Green wire), and the other socket that is supposed to have the (grey and Pink wiring), is covered with a black removable plastic cover that clips into that socket.
The only difference between the two sockets is that I noticed that one socket has a green wire for the reverse feature, and the other socket doesn't have the green wire running to it. Why does the exact mirror from one parkavenue have wiring for both sockets, and the other park avenue only has wiring for one socket? Does the mirror have to have wiring for both sockets? |

Re: Buick Park Avenue 1992 Auto Dimming Mirror Wiring Information
The other socket and wire harness (with the gray and pink wire) go to your driver side exterior mirror as it may have an auto-dimming feature as well
(RPO code for this option is "DD0") Check to see if your side mirror has auto dimming. Some vehicles may have the wiring, but at the same time may not be equipped with the auto-dimming side view mirror.

Re: Buick Park Avenue 1992 Auto Dimming Mirror Wiring Information
The mirror will sense that it needs to dim and sends an electrical current to the material inside the mirror to darken it. If your car has the additional option that Loekee is talking about, that same current will be sent to the drivers side outside rearview mirror (presumably through the connection behind the removable cap) and that mirror will darken, too. On my 01' Park Ave, the auto-dim feature dims the rear view mirror and also dims the drivers side outside rear view mirror. I have found that it is a very nice feature; having had 2 eye surgeries has made me somewhat light-sensitive.
Yesterday, I took one of the rear view mirrors that you are talking about and I added it to my mother in law's Toyota Camry. I only had a 6" pigtail of the black wires coming directly out of the back of the mirror, so therefore, I can't tell you which black wires lead to which colored wires. But, the plug has the wires numbered 1, 2 and 3. I did research and found that the # 1 wire is the power, the # 2 (center) wire is for the ground and the # 3 wire is the reverse input (which cancels the dimming function when the car is in reverse...a safety feature).
