I know enough about cars to get me by, so this may sound stupid to some of you, but what makes that wooshing air sound when some guys shift. I have been out to some races and when the guys shift it makes this air sound. what is that?

yep, beware, when you hear that blow off valve be afraid....be very afraid. On most stock turbo's the BOV is pretty quiet, so if it is loud enough for you to hear it it is most likely modified, and a modified turbo car can get some huge gains.
