I have a problem with my windshield wipers that I can't seem to figure out. Out of the blue one day, the passenger side wiper just flipped out. While driving with the wipers on, it just went out of rhythm. It kept hitting the driver side wiper, which caused that to flip upside down, and then the passenger side wiper went off the edge of the windshield. I manually pushed it back onto the windshield into the correct position, but it's still out of rhythm. Whenever I turn it on, it still hits the drivers side wiper and flys off the edge of the windshield.
I took everything apart to get at the wiper assembly, but nothing is out of the ordinary. The motor works fine, and there's no glaring issues with the wiper assembly. What's confusing me is that both wipers are attached to the same assembly, so if it was motor problem, I would think the driver side would be affected as well. I don't know how just one wiper would be thrown out of whack like that while the other one is fine and they both are connected to the same wiper assembly. Any help would be greatly appreciated. ![]() |

Re: 92 regal wiper problems
I believe, as most do, the arms connect to a spline shaft.
The wiper must have slipped on that spline wiper driver shaft. When I take off a window or something I push out the release at the bottom of the arm and release it off the spline. Sometimes they are pretty stuck from dis-similar metal galvonic response. However, the arm's socket is usually a softer pot metal and the whole wiper arm proubably needs replacing from a junker. Good Luck

Re: 92 regal wiper problems
Thank you, I replaced the wiper arm and transmission and the original problem is fixed. The only problem I have now is that the wipers don't work all the time. If I put set the wipers on an intermittent speed, it doesn't work, but if I set it on either slow or high, and then change it to an intermittent speed, it works fine. However, that only happens sometimes, at other times it all works fine. Do you know why this would be?

Re: 92 regal wiper problems
I would guess that your wipers erratic behavior is a sign that your motor is almost worn out. Its a lot easier than changing the switch but just as tedious in its own way.I changed switch only to find out ,it was the motor.

Re: 92 regal wiper problems
I did replace the motor along with everything else, with a refurbished motor I purchased online. Sometimes the wipers work great, sometimes I have to put them on high to get them to work before I can switch to a lower speed. When I set it to wash the windshield, it will spray washer fluid and not move the arms, spraying washer fluid under the hood. I have to have the wiper arms already moving and then spray the washer fluid.
Does all this sound like a faulty motor or just a bad switch? |
