Something binding on throttle body when pressing gas pedal

Every morning - for years - the first push of the gas pedal requires a little extra effort, as something is binding somewhere. Once "clicks" free, it's usually fine until the car sits for a few hours, then it's bound up again.

I was examining the throttle body, I believe the plastic cam thing that the cable connects to is binding on something. I would have to disassemble to get any further. I sprayed this area lightly with WD-40, and it "fixed" the problem for 2 days, and now it's back to normal.

It's a nuisance I've been putting up with for years, and finally decided I want it fixed. It's a real pain.

The coil springs on the throttle body look like they could be a real pain to reassemble. I need some advice. How would you approach this one? Anyone hear of this problem before?

Thanks.

Re: Something binding on throttle body when pressing gas pedal

Thinking about this more... could it possibly be the chokeplate inside the TB that's binding up? I've never had this issue on a GP, including one with 230K. Opinions?

Re: Something binding on throttle body when pressing gas pedal

You mean the butterfly plate? Absolutely and it does occur. Best thing to do is remove the throttle body and inspect the clearance between the butterfly valve/plate and the TB bore. Sometimes a good cleaning with throttle body spray cleaner helps since that area gets carboned up.

Re: Something binding on throttle body when pressing gas pedal

Thanks, that makes sense. I plan on picking up some TB cleaner next week and doing just that.
