Redline Vs. CTS

Went out with Gotian and his girl to look at some cars since he is getting rid of the Jetta. My girl got out of work and met up with us, we went to eat and then Gotian headed back to his office while me and the wife headed home. So were cruising at about 50 mph side by side GTO and Redline, no cars ahead, no cars behind just the empty road and us.
We catch a light and were sitting there for about 3 minutes when a black Cadillac CTS pulls up next to her. onboard are these tow young kids, probably 17 and 16 clearly driving dad's car. She looks at them then looks over at me with this "oh no, RICERS!" face. I knew they where gonna go for it and I wanted to smoke them but then that meant leaving her back so I figured screw it.
light goes green and all i hear is "SQUUUEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEELLLLL"
and shes off! Im like "NO! that engine aint ready for that! (only has 423 miles!)
the Cadillac took off side by side with her and as they clear the intersection she shifts to 2nd and jumps a nose.
I take off easy on first then pull second hard to catch up. I see they are up to about 60-70 and her bottom shift light comes on (4500 rpms) she shifts again and just kept pulling. by the next light she had pulled up to where thier nose was at her tail lights! she shut down cause of the light and they fell back as well. I try to pull up to the dude to tell him he got beat by a chick........a pregnant chick! but the idiot was so focused on catching back up to do his ricer fly by that he nearly ran me off the road!

I asked her later why she raced knowing the engine aint broken in and she told me she was shifting at or below 5000 rpms which explains why I only saw one shift light go off.

so there it is folks. the Redlines first race, and not even at full potential.

Re: Redline Vs. CTS

That sounds like a pretty nice race. I was wondering why it was raced without being broken in cause i know you just got it recently, but then i saw she was shifting at around 5k and then it was allright lol. Thats cool that she beat them without even pushing it hard.

Re: Redline Vs. CTS

Man that's gotta be devastating for the CTS owners out there. Knowing a Saturn can beat their car, without even redlining the motor. LOL

Tell her to be a little more careful with your soon to be born child though

Re: Redline Vs. CTS

^ Thanks man, I was concerned about the baby too, and I know that a few people will frown on her doing that while shes pregnant but its a wide street with four lanes and lots of room to recover if you loose it.
also there was no traffic till they hit the following light by which time she backed off completely and let them go on thier way. she was following the first rule of Carlaw.

LOL, yeah she'll let me race it but i doubt it can beat you. your GTP is faster.

You know, the Stage II says its "GM approved" but I dont know if that means it wont void the warranty. I'll have to ask Josh about it or drop by the service center.
I hear there is also a Stage III, not that im interested, Stage 2 is only 750 bucks and puts her at 241 whp. Add some suspension mods and wider tires and you got a nice little city sprinter.

Re: Redline Vs. CTS

750 dollars for that kinda power. I say money well spent.

Just think, once she has the baby you will get a little weight reduction so that thing will go faster...

Re: Redline Vs. CTS

Nice kill. Wish I had a girl who knew how to drive manual or was at least in to cars. Whats the break in point on the engine? Isnt it about 3000 miles?

Re: Redline Vs. CTS

nice race, like i said DO NOT BE AFFRAID TO REDLINE THE ENGINE. New engines dont really require the baby break in period that old engines do. They are machined to tighter tolerences and break in better with harder driving than weaker driving.

I added an Ingels Engine Torque dampener to eliminated my wheel hop, was a really great mod. First mod to that car should be to eliminate wheel hop.

The GM stage upgrades do not void the warranty as long as a dealership installs them. Stage 2 is nice, stage 3 is a but more, but it comes with a Dual pass intercooler plate that drops intake temps by like 25F. Stage 3 from gm comes with a custom ECU tune for offroad use only and a few other things.

I've always been under the impression that with higher performance motors, this is the best way to break in the motor. First few thousand, drive it like you stole it. Least, thats what I'm getting from the general idea on all the 335i boards I've been reading.
