1998deville Coolent Leak

When I Fill The Reservoir With Coolent It Leaks Out On The Driver Side. I Know The Water Pump Is On That Side ,but Would The Water Pump Leak With The Car Not Running?? ALSO CAN WATER GET INTO THE OIL FROM A BAD PUMP???

Re: 1998deville Coolent Leak

I'd look futher into where exactly the leak is. Usually the waterpump leaks on the Northstars start out very small. It could be a hose, or gasket for the thermostat housing.
And no, a bad waterpump won't cause water to get into the oil. Do you have that problem now? Is the oil milky, or does it look like oil should?

I would have a cylinder pressure test done to see if it is a headgasket failure, and which one it is.

I doubt it would leak out of the engine if it was blown. That would be a real serious failure, and I don't think the engine would run very well.
It sounds like you have a bad waterpump, if you can't find any other source of the leak. They are easy to change, but you need a special wrench to change it out.
