97 aurora fogging windows problem

We have not figured out why our windows inside the car seem to fog up regardless if we use the automatic or manual heater/ac adjustments. I was told that the air system in this car relies on the a/c to control the humidity.

We took our car in for some testing and the mechanic found that the switch in the heater AC control head contacts was sticking needs to replace control head.

Well then came the sticker shock. We were told that the cost from GM for this part is $1800. and to figure another $300 for install and to check out all A/C components and frion fill.

This is much more money than we want to pay and it is hard to believe that our 1997 aurora which only has 56,000 miles would have a breakdown of this type with such few miles?

We simply don't know what to do at this point? Any suggestions ideas?
