1999 PA Base Upgrade to Concert Sound III
Was wondering if anyone has found the amp harness pre-wired in a 97-05 PA without the Concert Sound. I looked briefly and will continue to look but thought to ask here. I may pull a front door panel and check for another connector (or continue to look by the rear speakers) as the speaker connection would come from the amp and not the radio (and use different colored wires). I have a service manual to check proper wire color. Thanks for any input.
BTW...I found the pre-wired connector in the trunk for the CD changer...would be simple to add one of those. A related note...A 97 PA without heated seats had the heated seat switch wires already run. Maybe one day I will get an Ultra and won't get caught up in these ideas/brainstorms... |

Re: 1999 PA Base Upgrade to Concert Sound III
What wires did you find.. Left right audio and power.. or was the control line there too?
I want something that will play MP3s.. Seems a bit easy to put a FM modulator back there and tune up at the IP radio. Thanks

Re: 1999 PA Base Upgrade to Concert Sound III
Will have to check to make sure, but it was the 10 pin connector...6 pins and 4 pins in one straight line. Power, L+R audio out plus common and a ground, E&C data line (for steering wheel and head unit control I believe).
Would be nice to have a real audio nut/guru for these cars on this forum (especially when one doesn't want to figure it out for himself...it's always easier to just ask the expert you know). Are all here "oldsters" who have given up the quest for audio nirvana...the great adventure of one's teens/20's and beyond... (not trying to offend anyone, just stirring the pot). Re: 1999 PA Base Upgrade to Concert Sound III
UPDATE... After looking around some more in the trunk I am convinced the amp harness is not there. The wire harness that comes from under the rear seat center has a plastic shield that could house two round harnesses and only one side is used.
The CD changer connector (Passenger side/trunk rear) is the 10 pin (the following is from 97 service manual): Pin 1: BRN/WHT...Left Audio 2: GRN/WHT...Right Audio 3: BLK/WHT...Audio Common 4: CLEAR...Shield Ground 5: ORG...Battery Positive 6: BLANK 7: BLK/WHT...Ground 8: Blank 9: Blank 10: DK GRN...E&C Data I also procured a 6x9 Sub from a 2003 Concert sound III and put in driver's side back deck (got two but one was blown). Adds more bass, but to me the low end is still kind of muddy. The front component set is IMO the greatest strength of the Delco system. Next project to add a Pioneer deck...tap into radio power/speaker wires and keep Delco unit in dash to eliminate dimming problems (plan to pull the ashtray and mount somewhere there). Of course, will only use one head unit at a time. The Delco system is not terrible, but surely can be improved upon. Thanks. EDIT...Oh no, not another idea. The amp harness could be stuffed down under the rear seat somewhere. Maybe will take off a door panel or check dash center for unused connectors (this would confirm the extra 3 speakers are pre-wired). But...this just sounds like too much project...the Pioneer will boost the amp output enough for me (my standards for audio nirvana are not "over the top" high...). |
