Hi,
I'm planning to repaint a Spark model. The models is made of white plastic resin, different from the one S.A.S. and BBR uses. What can I use to strip off the paint? As I don't want to melt it and be left with nothing. Is brake fluid okay? Or a no no? Cheers!

Re: Removing paint from a Spark model. Help!
No! I don't know what to use. Just not brake fluid. I will now sit quietly and wait for a response, as well.

Re: Removing paint from a Spark model. Help!
a nice bath in rubbing alcohol, 90%+ iso, should do the trick. though im not sure if they use a catylized finish or not but this is safe for the body and worth a shot.

Re: Removing paint from a Spark model. Help!
So brake fluid is out of the question in any case? I'll give the alcohol a shot. I have no idea if they have used catylized finish on the body. With catylized finish... acohol wont work then? Thanks!

Re: Removing paint from a Spark model. Help!
Owen cleaner usualy do the trick, with my last model I was so brave to even try Nitro thiner on resin, It worked with no problems, I took wide pan poored Nitro thiner inside, took big brush and brushed the paint of the resin, paint was relatively fresh so it went of with no problem.
Please don't try this without test because nitro is extremly hot. |

Re: Removing paint from a Spark model. Help!
You may want to try a nice long soak in Pine-Sol (or it's equivalent) or Wesley's tire bleach followed up by a light cleaning with paint thinner (used sparingly with a stiff brush) to get in the crevasses . . .
I've stripped several factory painted resin models this way for fear of ruining the body. . .
