Alternative media players

Recommend me media players for playing audio on my computer. Windows media player 11 skips too much, I updated from wmp 10 in the hopes that version 11 will skip less. Instead, it's worse. Realplayer skips less, but when it does, it skips entire verses or choruses.

Re: Alternative media players

Skips? WTH? I have....10 or 11. Not sure, but either way i don't have a problem. Try Winamp. Doesn't sound like the MP's mate.

Re: Alternative media players

List your computer specs. You may have hardware issues that are inhibiting you running media player running smoothly.

Re: Alternative media players

For audio, Winamp is a great alternative media player.

For video, VLC is a fantastic alternative media player as it has built in support for common codec's like DivX and Xvid.

Re: Alternative media players

LOL, I just today set my old laptop to use Roxio as the default player after fighting off Windows Media players attempts to take over the default position.

Roxio is the way to go, a really good multimedia suite of tools. Robust with an easy to use interface and not a big resource hog.

Re: Alternative media players

Winamp is a decet player, but I like the setup of mediaplayer better. I would think you have an issue with it if its skipping like that though. I've never really had any problems, except for last two weeks due to a bad sound card.

Agreed with VLC!!!!!!! Best of all, it's free. Just addeda DVD RW drive, and Windows MP wouldn't play DVD's, brought in VLC, problem solved, with minimal resource useage. I'm no fan of MP 10 or 11, but they play just fine, it likely some other glitch, perhaps corrupted files you try to play? I've found the MP's like to drop tunes off the Web with regularity.

Unless you try to use an Ipod with it

Also, recent versions have become a lot more bloated. Consumes a lot more system resources that it used to.

no ipod, don't need one (60 gb hd backup).
Computer solely for music. No problems.
I like watching Law & Order on my computer.
controls are simple to me, just the way i like it.
Organization is better on iTunes IMO.
Guess it all comes down to personal preference.
Still, if you ask me, iTunes, king of all.

whatever man. I used wmp for years and even though it wins on looks, i find iTunes is waaaaay better overall in comparison. again, it's all personal preference and what you want in a player. (I don't use a mac either.)

EDIT: I'm gonna add a few things. First I guess i should rephrase, "I think" iTunes is king of all. i can understand how a lot of people don't like iTunes, but i think apple did a good job in this market and on their player regardless. whether it will last, who knows but they're not down yet. different settings for each playlist, convenient browser on top, controls are more simpler than on wmp, cool online service with music and my favorite TV show for download are some of my reasons for choosing it over the others. Online music selection is only decent if not crappy, but i don't mind paying the extra 5 bucks for retail hard copy that isn't available online. i should say i can't speak on behalf of iTunes in terms of movies as i do know little about that, but i have no need for movies on my computer either. I totally agree that WMP and winamp are great players to consider also, and real player really isn't, but after my experience with them and what i need/want in a player, i think iTunes is on top and is a good consideration for the thread starter (musicwise).

I assume music on the hd is skipping? If so, maybe more of a soundcard problem than the player.
