Slip Yoke Eliminator

Just had a 3" lift put on my 98TJ. But it now shakes at low speeds and am having difficulty getting it into 2nd gear.

Have been told that installing a SYE will solve my problem. Has anyone any experience of this or what issues I might face...?

I had to do that for my 4in lift. When you do the SYE swap you will have to get a new driveshaft for the rear, a CV(or CVC cant remember) style driveshaft. You will have to tear your transfer case open to do the swap also becuase it replaces the whole rear output shaft (also another bonus is it will most likely upgrade your output shaft to a stronger one). The problem i came into was when i was putting it back together.....make sure you take pictures of what the gears look like inside the transfer case. If you dont then you will probally make a little mistake (like i did) and then you will have to do the process again. The mistake i did was i put the lever that controls what gear the transfer case is in in wrong so i was stuck in 2 wheel high....when i went to anything else the gears grinded.

for a temp fix i lowered my whole transmissions/transfercase about 1/2 an inch. you dont want to do that to much though because if you do it to much your engine fan will be hitting the radiator.

First a question... Did you lower your transfer case when you installed your suspension lift kit?? The shaking might be the drive shaft angle increasement that is making it shake. You can install the "slip yoke eliminator" or drop the transfer case. A 1" transfer case drop {or lowering} kit should correct the angle of your drive shafts.

When installing a 4" lift the Jeep gear shifter gets lowered with the transfer case [without slip yoke eliminators] , thus, lowering the shifter. On the one that I did I had to remove the center console (and lower rubber boot out of the way) and shave off some {1/4" or so} of the body where the shifter is hitting. Then re-drill holes for the lower rubber boot to fit (covering the 3" hole that the shifter extends through) and reinstall the center console.

(NOTE: the upper rubber boot sometimes will not fit correctly because it might bind in the back the same way that the metal body is not getting the in way of full shift into 2nd gear {also sometimes 4th and/or reverse} so I let mine sit inside the center console on the lower boot. I think you'll get the picture when re-installing. I have not found any different shaped upper shifter rubber boots that will look more cosmetincally correct as yet but when I do I post it the same.)


There is a kit that you can install that changes the length or your gear shifter linkage (if you want to spend the cash) to repair this issue too.

P.S. I am really suprised that you are have such difficulties with only a 3" suspension lift anyways. Normally a 1" - 3" lift will not effect the drive linkage all that much were as a 4", and up, requires much more changing.
