Muffler on a 2.8

or should i say, off. Was wondering if it sounds allright without one as compared to having one. I would just go outside and try it as i could have it off in 5 minutes, but it's too cold and muddy.

Re: Muffler on a 2.8

Why would you want your muffler off? For performance? I don't think it would sound good at all IMO.

Re: Muffler on a 2.8

doesnt sound good. not something you would want to keep off.

and im my opinon, only powerful cars have the right to be loud.
but you can take it off and see for yourself.

Re: Muffler on a 2.8

All it will do is make it sound like you cant afford a muffler, and the fumes that should be leaving the back of your car will be trapped under it. The performance will suffer at low rpm and be better at high rpm, but you will not notice the high rpm increase as much as you will notice the low rpm decrease.

I had a 87 2.8 that ran normal, then one day a speed bump clipped the bracket holding the tail pipe on, and it ripped the muffler clean off the tube that runs forward to the cat converter. Thats how it acted. After that it had a flowmaster muffler put on it and it was loud but still sounded like it actually had exhaust on it. You could hear money was spent to make it sound that way.

If your going to cut it off, at least make the tube come out from under the body by buying a flex tube and a foot or so of exhaust tubing and make a half assed side pipe with it. No since poisoning yourself with exhaust fumes at every light.

Re: Muffler on a 2.8

Question was answered for me. Damn thing got fscked up at a speed bump, it just ripped it off the pipe, it's still mounted to the car though, thanks to chicken wire. Looks pretty trashed though, gonna buy a flowmaster. Which one do you recommend?
