CRX 5 speed tranny swap HF to SI

Will a 5 speed transmission from a 1991 HF swap over with no problems to a 1990 SI? Are they the same transmission? Will I be able to tell a difference in the two?

should bolt right up. i can't see any reason it wouldn't. i took my 5 speed d16a6 out of the Si and into an auto LX 4 door. using my d16a6 tranny with a d16y8 i have never had an HF tranny...but it's been my experience that all the D series trannys will bolt up to any of the d series blocks (including the newer d16z6 92-95 Si/EX and d16y8 96-00 EX).

you don't get into fabercation until you go from MT to AT or the other way around

you'll love that Si tranny!!! :jump:

The HF was designed as an economy model (great gas mileage). The Si was the what the US got for a "performance" model in the 4G civic & 2G CRX. If I understood you correctly...you want to take out your Si trans, and replace it with the HF trans right? If that's what you meant then when you install the HF trans you will now be geared for good gas mileage rather than accleration/performance. You will be able to tell a difference and it definately will not make your car perform any better (acceleration wise). Expect better gas mileage out of your D16A6 tho.

im gonna have to agree with my buddy mr fishcat, the hf tranny will bolt up due to the fact they are both d series trannys. but why would u want to throw away the mest up gearing of the si tranny. the hf is designed to get u the greatest gas mileage possibele. the si tranny is built to move. especially the third gear. man does that thing pull. . but hopefully what ever u do it all works out.
