Shift light question

Hey one more question for everyone,
On the dash where it shows which gear your in as you shift (ie P,N,D,1,2,3) after you shift out of park the highlight disappears so you have to feel for which gear you are in.

Is this just a fuze issue or needs a new light...?

I would test the gear selector switch first thing for proper operation.

I'll second that. The switch is located at the transmission, and is susceptible to moisture incursion after several years. The moisture seems to get in around the seams and the pivot point where the transmission lever/shaft goes through it.

Good luck getting the connectors out of the switch. The factory used some sort of heat-sensitive glue/sealant to fill the connector to prevent moisture. Unfortunately, it also makes it very difficult to remove the connector. Heating the connector area with a heat gun or hair dryer can help soften the glue.

I've had the same thing occur on a few vehicles. Sometimes you can remove the switch and clean it by soaking in rubbing alcohol, moving the pivot through the range of motion to wipe the internal contacts clean, then drain it and allow it to dry. Sometimes it needs to be replaced, which is usually safest.
