Hit a horse!

I loaned my daughter my prize GPGT while I changed the oil in her old Buick and danged if she didn't hit a horse a quarter of a mile from the house.
Busted windshield, broken headlight and pasenger mirror, wrinkled hood and fender, and a bunch of horsehair and flesh up by the mirror and windshield. But it's still driveable, didn't crunch the front end at all. Guess it was a lucky hit for her and the car. Poor old horse may have to be put down. I think today was 10 years ago that I bought it and this is the first body work I'll have to have done.

Re: Hit a horse!

What a bummer Wally. If you decide to put her down do it humanely.

I recall a while back one of our members hit a deer but it was repairable.

Re: Hit a horse!

Damn Wally, is that car indestructible? A horse should've did her in. Sorry to hear that it got wadded up. With over 300k miles it might me hard to justify the repairs, but as Bob said, do it humanely if you decide to put her down, that car has served you well.

Re: Hit a horse!

Yikes! Up here in Michigan I'm constantly watching out for deer especially at dusk and dawn... Sorry to hear that. Glad your daughter wasn't injured.

Re: Hit a horse!

I forgot to ask how did the horse do? Is it still alive? I wonder how many pounds it weighs.

The horse survived and was still living this morning. It is hobbled pretty badly so I think it may not survive. It cut a gash about 1.5 inches wide and 18 inches long in it's hindquarters up high.
Insurance company is going to repair the car. It ain't going in the grave yet.
I will post some pics when I get them.

Re: Hit a horse!

Not too bad, all things considered. Hitting anything is scary, that's for sure. Did the horse jump out in front of the car or something?

Curious, what eventually happened to the horse?

Re: Hit a horse!

It was about 9:00 at night and the horse ran across the road. My daughter slammed on brakes and it was a low speed hit. I saw the horse yesterday and he was walking around but he has a nasty gash in his hind quarters.
Took the car to the body shop this afternoon and it should be ready next week. I'm surprised the insurance company decided to repair it but they didn't hesitate. It shouldn't cost me anything to get it fixed.
