1997 power steering bracket
I decided to tackle changing the intake manifold gaskets myself. I got everything off myself except the last bolt on the lower manifold. My question is, do I need to remove the pulley off the power steering pump to move that massive bracket out of the way, or is there another way. I can get the top two bolts out and I can get to a nut on the back of the bracket, but it still doesnt move.

Look on the bottom of the bracket for a mounting to engine block bolt or two. There may be 3 -4 bolts or studs holding it on. If you can get all bolts lose on the mounting bracket to engine you should be able to move the bracket forward to get the intake bolt.

Re: 1997 power steering bracket
Thank's MT,
Glad you liked it. I hope it helps someone else, It is a very simple job. I just did my lower intake manifold gaskets six weeks ago on my 98 blazer based soley on his site. Took me 10 plus hours(I'm Slow), but I changed all the hoses, new belt, cleaned all the injector tips with spray cleaner, and installed a brand new water pump while everything was looking at me out in the open. When I finished the job, on the start up, I got a P303 misfire code (which was normal) I cleared the code with my scanner and it never came back. I also learned a new trick as to getting the manifold droped straight back down to line up the holes on the block on the first try. I used six BIC pens, I put 2 pens in the block holes on the front pass side, 2 pens in the drivers side front holes, and two pens in the drivers side rear holes. I lined up the manifold with help from a friend on to the pens, then lowered the it right down to the block, one shot..

Also when you have it back together and running the dist camshaft retard setting should be checked and set if needed. It requires a good scanner to check and set it. MT
