Need help with paint on roof of 93 camaro

car in question: 1993 z28 coupe

What material is on the roof of fourth gen camaros? It feels kind like a Plexiglas type thing?

Well anyway to get to the point the guy who owned the car before me painted these gay stripes on it. Its actually paint and not like the stripe sticker things autozone sells.

How do I remove these stupid stripes from the roof? My first guess would be to wet sand with 2000 grit sand paper... A co-worker suggested I might be able to use a paint striper. Will a paint striper ruin the finish on whatever kind of plastic the roof is made out of?

In related news I am going to have my car repainted soon!!!

i would not use a paint stripper, wet sanding would be your best bet, but chances are that you would have to re-clear the roof of your car if you do this. You mentioned that you are getting yor car repainted...why not just deal with the stripes and just have whoever pants it take them off when they do the whole car? I think that would be the easiest way and you wouldnt end up clearing the rood twice then.

I am going to talk to the guy who is painting my car tomorrow.

The roof is not painted originally, would it look weird if that material is painted over?

yes, very good point. I myself own a firebird with t-tops, so i forgot the roof on your car isnt painted. The roof is still probably clearcoated, so the guy who is painting it can still just run some clear over it after he sands the stripes out.

I guess I am just going to have to ask the guy tomorrow. Thanks for your help though.
