2001 Buick Century - Oil leak

I took my car in for an oil change over the weekend. On the comments section of my bill, the technician wrote "oil leaking". What could be causing this? I hope it's not something too expensive to fix.

Oil leaks result from one thing and one thing only, gasket failure.

the question is, which one.

Re: 2001 Buick Century - Oil leak

He never told me where the leak was nor showed me. Being the woman that I am, after waiting all day (it seemed like) for an oil change. I paid the bill and looked at it later. Would one of those diagnostic tests tell me where the leak is exactly?

nono, diagnostic "testing" involves faults in the powertrain control module that elmuinate the check engine light to notify a problem and that the engine is not performing as designed.

A oil leak is found only by good old fashion "let's take a looksy where it's coming from" that has been around since the inception of the motor.

Is the car leaving noticable spots in your places of common parking?

Re: 2001 Buick Century - Oil leak

There are no oil spots in my garage. Not even a drop. Sometimes, not very often, I'll see what appears to be water underneath my car. That only happened over the summer though. No water spots this winter.

Which is normal if you use your air conditioner. Also normal to have some water/condensation come out o fthe exhasut.

Since it is not leaving spots, it is not a 'major' leak, and thus, I would say on your next oil change, bring the receipt in and ask the service rep to have the technician verify the noted leak and explain.

It could something as simple as the drain plug gasket.
