Ferrari's 60th group build. Tamiya Enzo.

Ok, here we go. This is my first WIP on any forum. I figure after this many posts in others it's time to do my own. I started this kit about 1 year ago and it has sat since the group build announcement. I purchased the SMS super detail set quite awhile ago and am using it on this build. I am using several of the builds here and of cours Alex's site as reference. I also signed up at ferrarichat as it is a great resource for all Ferrari pics and owners that are willing to answer any questions. I recieved a lathe for my birthday and have managed to lathe out a few parts so far for this build to compliment the already nice stuff that comes with the SMS set.

First up are the body panels, all have been painted Cobra Colors Rosso Corsa (sorry, it's a red Ferrari) and cleared using automotive 2-part clear. I wet sanded and polished using micromeshes great set and finished with Tamiya's compound.

Secondly is the engine, sprayed with metalizer aluminum and metalizer sealer. Valve covers were sprayed with some metal texture spray from Wal-Mart and then primed white and sprayed with Rosso Scuderia and Model Master flat lacquer. Added the photo-etch fuel rail and machined out the black disc on the top of the trans. Also machined out some CV joints and primed and painted them with Alclad pale gold. SMS carbon fiber was added and Tamiya's metal transfers. Cover the cf with Microscale Gloss.

Next is the chassis. Using a picture from ferrarichat I covered the rear section with cigarette foil paper. And then installed the window, and added the photoetch firewall shielding from SMS. I added some metal foil to the fuse/electrical boxes in the rear corners. I scratchbuilt the fuel vapour seperator on the firewall using some pics from the owners manual. It's my first real try with scratchbuilding and I am relatively happy with the results. I also scratchbuilt the wiring harnesses coming out of the fuse boxes. Added a fuel filler neck and then wrapped it in wrinkled up foil like in the reference pictures.

Here are the undertray and floor section covered in SMS carbon fiber, I have coated the front section with Metalizer sealer and a few coats of Tamiya smoke. I added all the photoetched rivets. This is my first try with carbon fiber decals and so far ok. Still working on the rear undertray.

And here is a shot of the test fitting so far.

Hopefully I can keep regular up dates and will start my F50 thread soon. Thanks for looking and all comments welcome.

Mike.

Re: Ferrari's 60th group build. Tamiya Enzo.

A damn man, now I want to finish mine too! I hate this site, makes you realize that you have too many kits to build. Who knows, maybe I could pull 3 off this year?!

Looking great by the way. I know how much time that kit takes with the SMS on top of it. Fun build though, looks really nice!

Keeping stuck on this thread.

Looking really great now I envy you that the tamiya looks so much better and almost regret that I didn' start with the tamiya instead of the revell. But it's also probably most the fantastic building skills that makes it look soo nice.

The brand is Excel, it is just textured spray for plastic, metal, etc. I think it's just for texturing outdoor plastic furniture (to give that metal look)

I just noticed after closer inspection that the frame rails that I foiled are actually cf. I peeled off most of the foil and cf'd those pieces.
I cf'd the upper air box using Tamiya's supplied decals and it actually looks pretty good. A nice grey tone to it and they settled down nice with microsol.

Thanks for the encouragement guys. More updates with pics to follow.

Mike.

Re: Ferrari's 60th group build. Tamiya Enzo.

Small Update:

Got the rear brake rotors done today. SMS photoetched items. They want you to stack 3 seperate discs to give the rotor some height in the middle, so I just lathed out a piece from aluminum rod instead. Driled the six holes in them using my pin vise. My camera can't seem to focus on them that well but they look way better in person. Sprayed the rotors with Finisher's carbon black and then rubbed with graphite powder.

Here is a shot of the chassis with the cf added instead of the foil, also added a piece of photoetch as the VIN plate on the rear rail. Added the SMS reservoir cap, somebody really should cast these things.

Thanks for looking, and comments and tips are always welcome.

Mike.

EDIT-Figured out the camera, new pic of the brakes.

Great Enzo! Was it hard to bend the SMS PE firewall?
Thanks for showing the Finisher's carbon black color I can really see now that is a good representation.

Actually it was easier than I thought, I just laid it on there and bent it at the corners and kind of eyeballed the rest.
The Finisher's carbon black is alot more black then I thought it was going to be. I think it would also make a great base for cf decals.
