Remote entry 2000 Grand Prix

Hi all,
I have read all the threads about the remote entry for the Pontiac Grand Prix, and understand how to program the Remotes. When I look at the dates of the postings I have to wonder if me posting this thread will get me an answer, but here goes.....

When I go to program the remotes as your steps show (from this site) When I turn the ignition key to accessory, I hear four beeps.

First question:

Do I wait until the four beeps have finished and then turn off the ignition? or do I interrupt the four beeps? I have tried both ways and still the system will not enter into program mode. ( 1 Beep when door is open and closed) also sometimes when I turn the ignition on/off I hear 8 muffled beeps three times, when I open the door I then hear 1 muffled beep, do these beeps mean anything? and why are they muffled?
