Completed: Tamiya 1/20 Ferrari 312T3 (Gilles Villeneuve, 1978)
Hello everyone,
I completed this in the summer of 2006. However, I have only just got around to taking some nice photos of the completed car. Some of the decals got damaged and I ordered some more from IndyCals which have now arrived. When I get a quiet minute, I will redo the side panels. In the meantime, enjoy the photos. Comments and critiques welcome as ever, Bill ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]()

That's a really nice build up Bill. The engine looks great.I also like the effect you have achieved on the inner cockpit tub,it looks like real metal.

Hiya Bill,
I take it you stripped the chrome off the front and rear wings, what did you use for the metal finish instead, as Steve says it looks very realistic. The engine looks great too, I love the Tamiya flat 12 engines in this kit and the Brabham Alfa, they look great just on their own, almost mini kits in their own right. Also like the fibreclass effect on the rear brake ducts, its a pretty elusive colour but you seem to have nailed it

Cockpit and chassis looks great. Over all very nice, but one thing that stuck out to me was the shiney rubber tires....it just doesn't fit, maybe its just my eyes? Keep up the good work.

Re: Completed: Tamiya 1/20 Ferrari 312T3 (Gilles Villeneuve, 1978)
Thanks Steve/Ant/Dave for your kind comments.
The chrome paint is from Plasti-kote and is shown below. It doesn't dry properly so you have to count on not pushing parts in place with your fingers/thumbs. You could try clear over the top but I didn't as I wasn't sure how it would react. ![]() The brake ducts started off yellow as per the instructions and then had a wash of Citadel Brown Ink. I think the interiors got some black too. As for the tyres, I didn't paint them. I buffed the tread as per normal but this time used some tyre shine gel for my road car... from memory it is Turtle Wax Extreme... it is in a lurid green bottle. Whilst they would never have shined the tyre walls on the race car, they would for photoshoots/publicity so I'm fine with that. Thanks again, Bill |

Fantastic build, especially the engine. Great seeing your model, Gilles was my favourite driver back then. Great workmanship thru-out.

Thats exactly what I was thinking, I hope I didn't offend you with my comments. I love the wet look tire on a street car, but seeing it on one of these threw me off a little Nice work!
