Exclamation 97 Sub no remote locks or on switch

I've read of several with problems similar to mine, but I'm confused. For months the switch(es) on the door that locks and unlocks the doors quit working. My wife used the remote. Now the remote has quit working. The remote's always been flaky, having to get very close to the driver's side front to make it work. I find it hard to believe that all five door lock actuators would go bad simultaneously? Is there a separate relay to lock/unlock the doors with the remote and on the doors?

I can pull the car apart to fix whatever, but have to figure out what to work with. I can't even be sure I know where the relay for the door locks is? There are no blown fuses in the dash panel on the passenger side of the dash.

Re: 97 Sub no remote locks or on switch

You have a circuit breaker (A 30amp) on drivers fender uder the hood and fuse 13 (20amp) both shoud be hot at all times, I had the CB go out on me. They are not real easy to check unless you have a meter but they are cheap.
My remote did this also (battery was toast) also on 97

Re: 97 Sub no remote locks or on switch

I recently purchased my 97, 2500. At the time of purchase it came with only one keyless remote, the dealer had to track down a 2nd remote for me. Anyway the original remote I was given also acted extremely slow and weak. I replaced the battery & it was still the same. Eventually the dealer found a 2nd remote for me and I took the vehicle to them to have both remotes programmed. While there I explained the slow\weak problem. The tech diassembled the remote removing the circuit board completely. We noted there was a coating of black contamination covering the contact grids. He used a brake cleaner to clean the grids, reassembled it and it has worked as good as new since. NOTE: I personally would have only used an actual electrical contact cleaner on the circuit board but his use of brake cleaner did work, it does remain to be seen if it may effect the board over a long period. Hope this helps.
