Please help: 327 bored .060 over
what should be the maximum on boring a block without the problem of over heating or other complications. i had one done but is being told by different people i will have heating problems. any suggestions on a good setup like cam and heads and carb for street. thanks in advance for advice.

You need to have the cylinder walls "sonic tested" to know for sure, but 327s are generally okay at .060. You need a minimum of .125" on the "thrust" side of the bore.
What are your intentions for using this 327? I can recommend a good power package, but need to know what it's to be used for. Jim |

thanks Jim, i am putting this in a 64 impala. i will accept any suggestions you may have on a good setup. i will be driving this on the street but i want it to sound good and have some pep to it. again thanks

As it happens, we did a 327 for a '64 last year. We used the Comp XS274S cam (solid, flat tappet), Performer RPM "Air Gap" intake, 9.5:1 compression, 650 Holley, 93 octane, 3.73 gears w/BW T-10, 13.80s. No port work on the 461s. Just "hard" exhaust seats and a good valve grind, 1.94/1.50 valves.
The little beast SCREAMS to 7,200 RPM. It may be capable of more, but he won't push it. Jim |
