Sorry, I know, it's another....Who would win question.

One guy has an 89 LX coupe 5.0 5spd with all the basic bolt-ons and 3.73 gears and a mild cam. Says he's pushing 300hp at the crank. The other guy has a 06 GT 5spd with a Diablo chip/program, cold air intake, and Flowmaster muffs. He says he's pushing around 370hp at the crank, with stock gears.

I think this would be a good race because, the 89 weighs about 2800 pounds, and w/3.73's would be alot quicker off the line. The 06 would be alot slower off the line weighing in at 3700 pounds (correct me if I'm wrong on that) but, I think with the power advantage it could make it close. Maybe I'm wrong but, I say the 89 would win by 2 maybe 3 lengths. Yes, they are both good drivers.

What do you guys think?

Re: Sorry, I know, it's another....Who would win question.

Why I'd win of course! About 775 at the crank with recent changes made in a 3300lb car. Thats full cage, full interior, and me.

J/K, If the guy in the coupe can drive and he really is down to 2800lbs then he better win.

I've got the power and weight in the thread. Both stick and 3.73 in the 89 and stock 3.27 or 3.42??? in the 06.

Yes, they both can drive, and the coupe as you know is light to start with but, then he has some weight out of the car.

Like I said, I think the 89 will be gone off the line, and the 06 will hunt him down past the 1/8. By then it will be too late and I think the 89 will get him by maybe 3 cars. Could be wrong though. Either way I think it would be a good race.

Re: Sorry, I know, it's another....Who would win question.

Id like to know how the guy with the 06 GT thinks he has 370hp at the crank with a chip/tune, CAI, and mufflers?

That's what I was wondering also but, it's his car not mine. So I figure he knows his car better than I do. Here's what he told me, CHIP/TUNE=40hp, CAI=10HP, MUFFLERS=15HP, and he has something else, nothing major, so let's give him another 10hp. 40+10+15+10=75hp. I think he may be a little high in his figure but, give or take 10-15hp and it's still AROUND 360-365hp. I thought that 40hp for the chip/tune was a little high but, I don't know much about the 4.6 or the Diablo computer tuners. I thought they were worth about 20-30hp. Either way, I think it will be a good run. Can't wait for summer!!

Everybody gets tied up in hp numbers anyway. Go ahead, build an engine for big hp, I'll build mine for big torque and we'll see who wins the race.

Yeah, I agree. Remember we're talking at the crank, not at the wheels. So, it probably is near that number. Stock they have 300hp, I can see the muffs, cai, and DON'T QUOTE ME ON THIS ONE BUT I THINK HE HAS PULLEYS. He has something else that adds only another 10hp. The only thing I question is the Diablo computer chip/tuner, he said it's worth 40hp. I don't know, I'm not the one that paid for it. All I can do is take his word for it.

Anyway, like I said before, I think the coupe would win. ALOT LESS WEIGHT AND PLENTY OF POWER!!

I agree! However, you know as well as I do that you need a good balance of both hp and tq, not just big tq #'s by themselves or big hp #'s by themselves. The truck I drive for work weighs about 8,000 pounds, has a Chevy diesel 6.2L (I think). When empty it's good off the line=tq (not like I really race it but, you get the idea) but once it gets going, around 3rd gear it's not pulling as hard=hp. You know the diesel has alot more tq than hp. I know, I know, this truck has a BIG power/weight ratio differance than a car and not to mention the lack of aerodynamics but, again, you get my point.

400tq is awesome but, you have to have some decent hp #'s to go along with it!!

Speaking of #'s, what are you pushing now that you have the turbo? Tq and hp????

A nice set of gears can alleviate that problem.

Yes, but, I don't think my employer would appreciate the lack of gas mileage when I'm driving 170 miles a day.

The turbo kit will be here in less than a week. I hope to have the car up and running by next weekend. Thats if I can kick this sinus infection and the nice weather holds up. With the turbo hopefully holding to no more than 12psi I should be around 650rwhp and 700rwtq. I may turn it down since this is a street car running on pump gas. I'll keep it around 600rwhp & 650rwtq tho I'd say. Just keep the timing low and locked out, should be fun lol. You'd be suprised at how much timing can affect the power output with a poweradder.
