Hi there & thanks for reading!
I have a '96 elantra. I have this feeling in my front wheels after I've been driving for a bit. When I am on the highway (55-70 mph) I get a thumping in my wheel, which causes my car to "bounce" lightly and my steering wheel to vibrate. Also, when I brake to stop, I feel like the car is sloshing back and forth, or sometimes up and down. It almost feels like I am driving on a tire that is oval-shaped instead of round. It also does this jerking back and forth, like if you would watch a pigeon's head when it walks (I'm not kidding! Go ahead, you can laugh!). The brakes are less than 6 months old, and the rotors are not warped (they were replaced with the brakes, and then again because the bouncing wouldn't stop). It started before I got the brakes, but no one can find a problem. Could it be that I need an alignment or balance? Please help! |

Re: Thumping in front wheel, jerking when stopping
Could be that the tire is out of round. Ours started doing the same thing right after we had the tires rotated. We probably didn't notice it with the tire at the back. I'm not sure if there's any way to fix it though. We've had it balanced and everything and it still does it.

Re: Thumping in front wheel, jerking when stopping
I am trying to check the brake shoes on my 92 Lantra but can't get the drums off. Is there a secret or do you just have to bash harder??
