2001 Alero Stereo wiring problem

I have been trying to hook up a new Pioneer head unit in my Alero. Previously there was just the stock stereo.

The problem came up... that I can't get the ignition power to my stereo! The Constant power supply is working, but the Ignition power is not. Result: The thing won't turn on, which could be a problem.

What I know: I checked out my wiring converter (supposed to go from the cars plug to my stereo's plug), and found that my car doesn't have an Ignition Power supply where my converter is supposed to be getting it from. That terminal coming from my car is empty, if that makes any sense... I checked all the terminals on my car's plug, and I only found one hot line, the Power Constant, but no ignition power supply. I hooked my stereo's Ignition line to my cars power constant line to test it, and the stereo works but just won't turn off when I turn my car off.

I was wondering if any of you had come across this issue before. When I went to an electronics store before I attempted to install it, the guy told me that I would have to mount the factory stereo in the trunk, run the line to that stereo and then to my new head unit. I simply could not understand why I would have to do that, so left and went to another store figuring that guy was crazy.

Any help would be appreciated.

GM started integrating there head units into the contol modules of certain vehicles at this time, i.e. the Impala and Monte Carlo use the stereo to reset the service reminder and certain owner programmble options are changed thru there too. I believe in order to remove the stock head unit completely from the vehicle there is a module you can purchase to take place of it. Any reputable stereo shop should be able to help you. Hope this helps.

New problem lol

So I installed this module along with the stereo, and the stereo works. Now my dashboard lights and my tail lights don't work. I assume these were run through the stereo too? Any ideas on how to fix it?
