1996 Astro not running right

The fuel pump died yesterday so we replaced that. Now the van starts but we still have a problem. It idles okay but when we try to run it in gear it hesitates and acts like it is not getting fuel correctly or is sucking air.
Any ideas?
Thanks.

Re: 1996 Astro not running right

The van ran fine until it just quit running and we could hear that the fuel pump wasn't running at all..it makes a whinning noise. We put the new pump in and then the van started but now we have this other problem.the hesitating and then stalls. The only way to check the lines where they are attached is to take the gas tank down again which we can do but we are fairly certain the lines are sealed right..but then again..you never know.
Could air get in the lines when they were not attached? Can you bleed the line? Or isn't that ever a problem?
Can the pump quitting cause a problem with something else? Like a sensor?

Re: 1996 Astro not running right

No check engine light?

I got one when I did my pump lately, turned out my distributor cap/rotor were corroded very badly, and the TPS Sensor was physically broken as well.

Both of these conditions were discovered after replacing a fuel pump. There were no signs of these 2 issues BEFORE the pump died.

Now, I am NOT saying that this is your problem - I am just informing you that this scenario occured to me immediately after replacing my fuel pump.

Good luck.

Have you checked your fuel pressure since the replacement?

No we haven't.

(This is the wife)
My husband went out and ran it. It starts fine and idles fine Then when you gas it it runs good for 15-20 secs. And then it starts backfiring thru the air cleaner. If you hold down on the gas it just shuts off.

Re: 1996 Astro not running right

have you fixed this problem??? I am in the same boat as you. When the van is 1st started it will run fine and have power, but when my van warms up it looses almost all power. I just did a entire tune up. Plugs, Wires, Cap, Rotor, oil filter, and air filter. Please let me know if you guys have any reccommendations. I will be working on it tomorrow.

Thanks

Re: 1996 Astro not running right

Im Still battling this van!! PLEASE HELP IF YOU HAVE ANY IDEAS. I have done a complete Tune up, Fuel Filter... also MAP sensor, Both the collant switch and the coolant sensor. Heres my latest find. The temp never really comes up even on a long test drive.. yet i know the thermostat is opening because the radiator is just as hot. Would the ECU not knowing the correct engine temp cause misfires once the engine it at operating temp? Whats the odds of the problem being the TPS, or the MAF Sensor??? I canbelieve i havent got this thing fixed yet. tonight i am planning on testing the fuel pressure..

Nathan,
To eliminate confusion, please start a new thread explaining what your symptoms are and what you have done so far. Make sure you include year make model and engine.

Thanks
