94 GMC Jimmy 4x4 4.3L(W)CPI Vortec---surging, no start, and wont shift

Well my Jimmy's at it again... This time I went out to start it for the first time that day, It started fine. Then when it warmed up, and I noticed it had a high idle speed (about 1000RPM). I got to work and parked it. I came out after work and it started fine, but it still had the high idle problem. I start driving and with the car in overdrive it would not shift out of first gear. So I shifted it into second manually and drove it home. I have no clue what is wrong at this point. I turn it off. Then come back out to tinker with it and now it wont start.... I sprayed carb&choke cleaner in the intake and it started right up with the high idle. I have to use the carb&choke cleaner to get it started..... PLEASE HELP ME!?!? I am clueless as to the cause of this peculiar behavior...
