Unhappy So, anybody need three wheels?

Well, I wrecked my Stealth today.

We got a pretty bad snowstorm up here and the only way to get out of here is down a hill. Sadly the plow had not been through yet. I was going about 15MPH letting the car idle it's way down the hill when the back end suddenly stepped out causing the car to head to the right. This is really bad since on left side there is a hill and a curb and on the right side there's a huge ditch and a bunch of trees. Anyhow, I tried to correct but it just snapped again making the car head left.

I think, oh well, I'd rather hit the curb then be in the ditch. I turned the front wheels to the left to minimize the carnage and I knew the back end was going to get hosed. The driver front hit the curb and spun the car around slamming the back passenger wheel into the curb. The wheel is trashed and cocked forward and under a little. I thought the strut tower would have collapsed from a hit that hard but after getting it on the truck it looked fine. Perhaps it just bent the control arms.

So, I need a new wheel. Problem is the dealer can't get them, of course, and they are $760 besides! I figure the insurance will have to pay me that and then I can pay the difference for an aftermarket set? Do you think they would do that?

I'll get some pictures tomorrow when I go to pick up the sardine can I get to drive around until it's fixed.

Re: So, anybody need three wheels?

Glad to see the damge was minimal and you were not hurt. Now that thats been said....

DAMN!!! That sucks...I would guess the insurance company would compensate for your loss, but what is your deductible or do you have one?

Re: So, anybody need three wheels?

glad to hear everything was small, and you only cracked a rim.

760? for a wheel or a set? im pretty sure you could find a stealth rim for cheaper.

here is something i quickly found
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Dodge...spagenameZWDVW

as for the insurrance comp paying you for aftermarket, i highly doubt it. gotian would know, just waiting for him to chip in.

Thanks.

I've already submitted a claim and they are going to cover it. My deductible is only $500.

The wheel didn't crack but it is bent enough that it needs to be replaced. The $760 was for one wheel. The problem is that I need a white one. I am not going to drive around with three white ones and one silver one. I want the car to drive and look like it did before the accident. If they can find a white one then fine, but if not they don't have much of a choice but to give me the money for the wheel and I would pay the difference for an aftermaket set. Someone at 3Si said he has something similar happen and the insurance gave him the money and he bought aftermarket wheels.

Anyhow, as promised here is the damage:

And that's why Snow states suck ass.

What happened to the superb AWD handling? Hit some ice or something?

AWD doesn't help much going down a steep grade with crummy tires.

Re: So, anybody need three wheels?

I was wondering something. With the $500 deductible doesn't that mean you would only get $260 from the insurance company? If so it might be an idea not to file the claim unless you have Allstate forgiveness. I would guess your rates might go up filing a claim. I dunno though was just thinking...

Good luck..

No, it means that I pay $500 and they pay the rest. After the suspension is fixed it will need the front bumper repainted. It isn't going to be cheap.

Re: So, anybody need three wheels?

I bought my dad a set of rims for his 3KGT, so he left his stock rims here at my house in NY.

I don't think he plans on using them anytime soon. But if you want, I'll see if he wouldn't mind giving them to you for a reasonable price. They looked pretty nice on his (for stock that is). So, if you are in need of a set, I'll talk to him and see if we can't help you out.

You might need a new tire on one, but they are wrapped in Falken Azenis tires too.

Re: So, anybody need three wheels?

Yeah, I'll be talking to the about that Monday when I can talk to the service manager. I also want them to check the front end for any damage. I also want a four wheel alignment done as well.
