v4 or v6

hey guys
i am thinking of getting a new 03 eclipes, but can't decide to go with v4 or v6. it doesn't seem like there is a big gap in size, 2.4 and 3.0 or power. pricely wise v4 is cheaper but i am thinking to mod it later on so which has more potential? and what is there big diff on 5 speed and auto on eclipse? what are the 1/4 mile time for stock for both v4 and v6
thanks

Find yourself a good used 2G GSX or GST. The 3G Eclipse is a Dodge stratus in a different body.

If you do go for the 3G Eclipse, get the V6. Always go for the trim level that has the most horsepower when purchasing a sports car. That way you have no regrets. You bought the one that had everything on it. If you buy anything less, you'll end up kicking yourself in the butt.

Used to own a 3G. Actually, both my friend and I did. We both own GSX's now. But he had the 4cyl GS, and I had the V6 GT. If you have to get one, I'd go with the GT. Driven both, and the V6 GT is a lot better IMHO.

Hell if I know. I was never interested in the 3G Eclipse.

But what bothers me is that someone here is asking for help, and you have to go and be an ass about it. If you don't have something constructive to say:

KEEP YER YAPPER SHUT!

Actually, there is a V4 in existance. I remember other boards talking about it. Ducati or something like that and a few other one's, and a long time ago used it. Don't know if they still use it today. But I'm sure if you did a search for V4 Engine, it should pop some stuff up.

TMUMMY,

Your profile seems to be incomplete. What vehicle do you drive that qualifies you to comment on an Eclipse? Where are you located?

Everyone else commenting has the perquisite ownership or intent to purchase an Eclipse.

Lets see... I bet you're wondering what qualifies me....

I purchased an 1998 Eclipse GSX AWD LSD brand new.

I immediately started upgrading systems that I felt were weak points: intake & exhaust. Akimoto cone filter. HKS cat back exhaust.

Then I added front and rear aftermarket sway bars & front/rear GAB strut tower braces, to take care of the body roll during cornering.

Then I added the greddy hard pipe kit w/ blow off valve. Didn't go for the front mount intercooler, because it blocks off too much of the radiator and causes overheating on the street.

Then on went the HKS boost controller & turbo timer.

Then I had the valve cover powder coated, and raised lettering polished. Didn't want that to oxidize.

No exterior wing upgrades, or body upgrades. No stickers to advertise to car theives what they can have if they take my ride. It's more fun to beat someone on the street when you look mostly stock. They never , ever see it coming.

Now that I have a 2nd car as a daily driver, the Eclipse is open for more agressive work.

-turbo upgrade W/front mount intercooler
-brembo brake upgrade
-new cams
-new pistons
-urethane suspension bushings
-roll cage
-race tires
-clutch upgrade
-ECU
-Higher flow fuel pump
-Larger fuel injectors
-Upgraded LSD
-under drive pulleys

My point is TMUMMY, before you become rude and call people here "stupid", prove to me that you have what it takes to shoot your mouth off like that.

Hell. I just bought the Xterra and plan on going off-roading. I don't know how to off-road yet. It's a completely new realm for me. Raising a vehicle, instead of lowering it...more side-wall rubber, not less...who would have thought? Rock Crawling, crossing water, using a winch to get yourself out of trouble....etc

The thing is, I don't go on the Xterra boards and mouth off to those guys who actually have had the Xterra for longer than me (and have done some serious off-roading) and tell them they are stupid.

So come on...step up to the plate...let me see what you've got.

Prove me wrong. Prove to me you are not an ass like I think you are.

Black99GSX,

Sweet looking ride! I have the super white. I had a black car once, and found it difficult to keep clean. You've got more guts than me.

The only problem with the white, you see every little road tar speck that gets kicked up on the doors.

there are a few V-4s

Yamaha has them in a few of their bikes, havent heard of Ducati's using them...

but as far as i know, there hasnt been any V4 motors mass produced for cars. When you get that small, it doesnt have the advantage of being big over the Inline4... ie the V6 vs the I4... V6 has more grunt.

anywho thats my thought... :licker:

RedNeck383,

Two Novas? SWEET! I didn't know that you had 50/50 weight distribution in the Nova. I am a car nut, and have lots of respect for that car.

I see that you're in Long Beach. Even better for your Novas. I live in the rust-belt, so a car like yours around here is a sight to behold.

My dream is to own a 1968 Shelby Cobra Mustang GT 500 KR. I'll get there one day

On a side note...

Lets see...who's replied so far....

Me- 98 GSX
Black99GSX - Who has owned the 3G Eclipse
RedNeck383 - Owns Two SWEET Novas.

Still waiting for you to step up to the plate and take your swing TMUMMY

Thanks. Yea, I have like a thing for black cars, LoL. My 3G was actually silver though...would've had black, but eh...my buddy bought a black 3G, LoL. Anyways, he doesn't have his 3G anymore either. After driving mine a couple of times, he ended up trading his 2000 GS in for a White '99 GSX, LoL. And I hear ya' about the dirt. White and Black cars are hard to keep clean.

Anyways, here's a pic of our cars. 2 '99's.

That was taken the day when my buddy got his GSX, heh. It's a little different now. Has window tint and clear corners. Everything else really can't be seen, because it's all performance mods. Gotta get ready for that big turbo.

Two Sweet Novas? haha i so wish...

My 72, is Decent. The paint needs to be redone, along with 2 spots of rust the size of a quarter... nothing too terrible.

The 70, Its a basket case... but has the cool motor the 425hp 383ci.

So my plan is to transplant the 383 into the 72. Haha, this all takes money, which im out of from buying the 72. Ugh old cars are badass, but a pain in the ass.

68 Shelby GT500 ahh yes. The best non-Mustang ever. I say non Mustang cause Shelby's dont say Ford, or Mustang on them anyplace. Just GT500 and Shelby.

Nice cars though!

First of all kid, what the heck are you trying to say here? This post makes no sense what so ever. How can you know so much about the Eclipse? YOU DON'T OWN ONE!

Second, how can anyone here expect me to have an intelligent debate with you? Your profile says that you were born in 1985. You are around 17 years old (depending on the month in which you were born)? It's not your age that makes me doubt the credibility of your replies. It's the fact that you seem not to have paid attention in your highschool English grammar / composition classes. Have you read what you typed? Scentences begin with capital letters. The pronoun when you refer to yourself is "I" not "i". Also, you should familiarize yourself on the use of periods. It helps to avoid run-on scentences.

You've proven that you lack in basic communication skills. The other critical skill involved in modifing any vehicle is at least algebra and basic geometry. Let me help you out in this regard. First basic lesson:

1 + 1 = 2

I'll introduce you to 1+2 when you've grasped the concept above.

Third, I've seen your previous posts on this board. You did not even know of any Eclipse's problems, until the Eclipse owners here spoon fed you the information. Let me help you again. To properly converse on a subject, you must at least grasp the basic fundamentals of said subject. Go to http://www.howstuffworks.com and click on the link on the left hand side of the webpage that says "automotive". This will give you information on how engines work, forced induction, rotary engines, diesel engines, the whole ball of wax.

(Again I would feel remiss if I did not give you another helping hand. How to find the direction the rest of the English speaking world calls "left". Hold your hands in front of your face palms away from you, extend your thumbs horizontally, and extend your fore-fingers vertically, curl up the other three fingers. Take a long hard look at both hands. The one that makes the "L" shape is your left. To find out the definitions of the larger words in these instructions, go to http://www.dictionary.com)

TMUMMY, this next part is for the grown-ups who have not diminished their intelligence by subscribing to pop-culture's negative influences. TMUMMY, turn on your television and find something befitting your intelligence. My four-year-old godson recently found the Teletubbies rudimentary, so it should be appropriate for you. I'm willing to bet you'll find something irresistible about Tinky-Winky.

For the remainder of those who have subscribed to this post, I must say that this has been an excercise in patience. This must have been exactly what Dr. Jane Goodall experienced in her study of the African mountain gorillas. I can only imagine the frustration she felt while trying to decipher the methods in which gorillas communicate.

On a sad note, because the children are our future, at least a gorilla has been taught sign language and could communicate with others. It may not have been intricate communication, but you have to give the gorilla credit. The gorilla (Ko-Ko) had to span a species gap. This teenager has the genetic advantage of being a homo-sapien, yet has not employed the advantages that a larger cranium provides.
