A/C compressor clutch

Can someone tell me if 97 3.1l GA has stationary or rotating type of A/C compressor clutch? This one is spinning all the time no problems with AC, I am just trying to solve excessive fuel consumption. And I hate when I have such a problem when I know that I am maintaining this car in the best possible way. It seems like the better I am to my GA the worse MPG I get. With 15.2 gas tank I get about 190-200 milles from full (I mean from the gas cap to the the level when the gas light warnig comes on) no problems with perfomance at all. This is for city/highway mix.

Re: A/C compressor clutch

13mpg? you have more issues then an AC clutch. I get 25+with my 3.4 during the summer(100*+ temps) with the AC running all the time. Time to look for a bigger issue:
*clogged airfilter
*low tire pressure
*Plugs/wires/coils
*brakes (mechanical or human cond.)
*fuel delivery prob

Re: A/C compressor clutch

Some times the clutch on the AC will turn all the time.
Especially if you have sandy road grim in the clutch area.

Wasnt it you that had troubles or questions before about your AC clutch?

I say its your injectors that are bad, since you have those misfires all the time. They dont last forever.

My 99' had a few replaced under warrenty but then when the misfires continued I replaced them ALL and no more misfires since, and this was right after I became a member here at AF. Thats a record for my SE

Might double check you tires as most recomed 35-40 PSI these days,
and 3#'s of air can make a big difference.

Re: A/C compressor clutch

I know those injectors the reason I was avoiding them for a long time is because I can not think off any smaller but more expensive part on the car than injectors I think they are about $80 each that is about $550 for 6 with tax. If I decide to change all of them can you recomend any good brand of injectors for my GA, also what you people think about those remanifactured ones that are like $160 for all 6. (Answer to XI's question: No I did not have problem with A/C clutch before.)

Re: A/C compressor clutch

when I had built up my TPI engine a few yearsn ago and I thought I had injector issues, after a little research I discovered that the ford injectors would work fine on my chevy and were way less expensive. You might try to find out if there is a cheaper altenative.

Re: A/C compressor clutch

I dont believe any other injector wuold work except GM since teh wire connectors are different.

Aki, search the net!!! I bought 6 (22#)for my 99 SE for $350, they were remanufactured by the place I bought them from. Came with a 1yr warrnty.

Try here too http://milzymotorsports.com/

He sells them but not sure if he has them for the 3.1.
