97 Mountaineer Remote Entry Programming

Just bought a 1996 AWD Mountaineer with a 302 (now I have 2 302's )

Last week, I started it up got out to scrape the windows and must have bumped the door locks. Went in the house to get my other set of keys, remote won't work with the engine on, tried the key, no go they were frozen. Just moved to the north so no WD-40 to unfreeze them, finally used Pam cooking spray worked great.

Finally to my question, I have not tried to program the keypad on the door, but this fiasco prompted me to try. I popped the hood and got the factory code from the top of the EEC. Here is the procedure that I tried unsuccessfully...

1) Keyed in 5 digit code from EEC sticker
2) Pressed the 1/2 button
3) Punched in new code

New code will not work, factory code will not work. Am I doing something wrong, or, is the factory code on the EEC incorrect?

Thanks,
John

Re: 97 Mountaineer Remote Entry Programming

Figured it out, the 5 digit number is on the computer module near the jack, not the EEC. Works fine now.
