94 grand am overheating problems!

I have a 94 grand am with a quad 4. I had problems with it overheating.Took it to mechanic, he replaced the water pump. Had problems again, he burped the air out of it. Ran fine for awhile, then started heating up again. Took it back to mechanic, he says I need to replace the gasket. Don't trust mechanic, so I brought it back home, burped the air out of again. Ran fine for about a day, then heated back up again. Burped it twice since then, ran fine for a day again. Now it is doing it again. It is not leaking any fluid. I also replaced the cap cause I thought maybe it was bad and it was sucking air. It heats up all the way into the red, turn the car off and the fan kicks on. But no leaking of fluid. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Welcome to AF.

What gaskets was he saying needed replaced?

First I'd try a cooling system flush and replacing the thermostat if it hasnt been done already.

If you keep needing to bleed air from the cooling system then you have a leak somewhere.

Re: 94 grand am overheating problems!

sounds like a bad thermostat or one that was put in upside down.
