vr4 and an impala SS

So I'm driving home on the highway today, and the entire way I've been driving slow with cruise control on, to conserve fuel. Now I'm on the last leg of the trip, have plenty of fuel left (as planned) and am bored out of my mind. I look in the mirror and see some mercedes behind me waiting for me to get out of his way. I decided I'm done conserving gas, drop it to 5th and see how fast he wants to go. I sweep past 85, 90, up to around 100. The benz backs off but follows, letting me attract the attention of any cops up ahead. I slow back down to 90, pop it into 6th and keep my eyes on the horizon looking for speed traps. Out of nowhere a charcoal '06 Impala SS pulls up next to me and the guy grins at me. We both punch it, I take a bit to hit boost in 6th so he takes a few car leads right off the bat.

I finally see my boost creep up and then the needle sweep across the gauge and spike to 16 then drop down to 1 bar, I start reeling him in quite quick. I pass him around 120 and take it up to 140ish putting 4 or so cars between us. I glance into my mirror to see if the Benz decided to play too, but he apparently did not.

I let the engine slow me back down to 100ish and he pulls in behind me so we can pass a couple of trucks. When the road opens up again, I double clutch it into 4th, and take off. He gives chase, but this time I hit boost instantly, and he falls back alot quicker. By 125 I quit, because it's obvious there is no playing catch up on his part. That was pretty much it, we just cruised at high speeds for the rest of the way. It was pretty quick for a 4dr sedan though.

Re: vr4 and an impala SS

Looked it up, they have a 5.3L v8 with ~300hp supposedly good for low 14s as far as I could find.

Re: vr4 and an impala SS

Good kill. The Impala you raced has the LS1 engine in it (5.3 liter though). They move pretty quickly. I believe they run a low 14 to a high 13 sec. 1/4 mile.

You'll need a pretty well massaged car to give you a decent run, especially from a dig.

Re: vr4 and an impala SS

Ive ran the new Monte Carlo SS with the same engine, same power ect..
They are nice little cars but with only 300bhp its no match for the VR-4.

Re: vr4 and an impala SS

Yeah I figure at ~15psi and basically running an open downpipe, I'm putting down ~300AWHP...so I had a decent advantage there. It's sad though...gonna have to finally breakdown and do the 60k tuneup. I'm about a tank of gas away from hitting the mark.

Re: vr4 and an impala SS

good kill man,, since it's awd vs fwd if you could have run him from a dig i bet he wouldn't have even bothered trying to run you again because he'd never see you again

Re: vr4 and an impala SS

We've been putting those 5.3L engines in the trucks to low 12s with bolt ons and a cam swap. I wonder how well we could do with them in a fwd car?

Nice kill, bro! I've personally seen one go high 13s stock at the track. They really put that "supposed" ss from 04 to shame.
