Check the numbers on the heads. Some 6x heads are great. Others are big ol POS.

YH was used for many years and was multiple configurations and cubic inches, all the way from a 455 to 301 depending on the actual year it was used. If its a 75 block its a 400 that pushed 170HP.

YT was also used for many years but i think it was always a 400. The early ones pushed out some pretty good HP but they lost a ton of power after 1971, as all pontiac engines did.

Dont be fooled by the numbers they say these engines put out. I have a 400 from 72 thats in a 72 catalina 2dr. It pushes that car around like a mofo. With all that weight you can still set some BFG 275-60-15 on the back and lay rubber down all the way through 1st and part of 2nd. For a car with a 2 barrel its pretty fast even though the car itself is half as long as my house.

Re: YT and YH Engine codes

I would be grinning if those heads are good ones or not. The blocks are just blocks, the heads are what i would be looking at. Both blocks have equal potential when it comes to building them for performance applications. Ive seen 6x heads go for 300 bucks missing valves and needing other major work. I figure if you have two buildable blocks and a good set of buildable 6x heads you have done good being 300 in on the deal. The value of the parts you have other than for performance applications would depend on what vehicle they were option to. People interested in resto could be on the hunt for the parts you have as we speak.
