94 tbird not starting

okay, i have a 94 bird that won't start. when i turn the key all the fuel pump kicks in, the lights come on, and the guages move except for the battery guage. the battery is good, the lights work, and when i try to turn it over nothing happens, not even a click. cleaned all the connections and checked the grounds. i bought a starter relay to swap out and see but i can't locate it under the hood. any help?

Re: 94 tbird not starting

Welcome to the forum. Are you sure the shift lever is in Park or Neutral? Turn the key to Start and move the shift lever back and forth to see if it makes a difference. Is your car equipped with an anti-theft circuit? If you can't find the solenoid then you haven't cleaned all of the connections! It is located on the starter. Remove and clean the large and small wire connections on the starter. Using a test light or voltmeter see if you have 12V at the small wire on the starter when someone turns the key to Start. If you have 12V there in Start then remove the starter by removing the ground connection from the battery first, then the wires from the starter and then the three bolts that hold it in place. Take it to AutoZone or some place like that and they will test it and the solenoid for you. Be sure your car is on ramps or securely on jack stands before crawling underneath it to get to the starter! Don't rely on just a jack.

Check the inertia switch in the trunk, a good enough bump can disable the fuel pump. its on the drivers side.

Re: 94 tbird not starting

The engine will still spin over if the inertia switch is diabled. The inertia switch disables the fuel pump. The Start Interupt Relay is mounted under the dash to the left of the steering column. This relay is used if you have an anti-theft system which is why I asked you if the car had one. I don't have a schematic for your year but on a 97 there are 6 wires going to the trans range selector sw. In the plug, the row with four wires (next to the clip that holds the plug to the switch) has the 2 wires for the starting circuit. They are the 2 outside wires in that row. One should have 12V when the key is in Start. The color of the one from the ign sw is R/LB and the one to the relay is W/PK. Your year may be different so see my post in the Tech Help thread to see where to get schematics (wiring diagrams).
