CD won't eject or play

05 Chevy Malibu, stock stereo/cd player

I was driving down the interstate and all of the sudden my CD player stopped playing and it said locked on the display. The radio wouldn't play all it said was locked. I stopped for gas and shut off the car, when I started it up again the radio would play but the CD wouldn't play or eject, it says NO DISC even though there is a disc in there.

Re: CD won't eject or play

Something is clearly internally wrong. Whether the disc has been only very partially moved when you hit eject or it does not read it I do not know. I would reccomend you just get an aftermarket CD deck for your car. Now for the bad news, wiring harness alone (not inclduing the deck nor deck kit) is going to run you about $100-$120 because for some reason GM thought it would be a good idea to run a bunch of other things through the deck. I see it every day at my work with people with your same car that comes in. Best of luck in w/e you do.

Re: CD won't eject or play

If your comfortable with it you might have to pop the top panel off the top of the unit to get the CD out. Thats what i had to do with my panasonic when i wrecked my car. I would take the car to the dealership and get them to look at it, it should be under some kind of warranty.

I found the wiring harness itself on ebay for 8.99. Im guessing you where talking about this

http://cgi.ebay.com/Dash-kit-Radio-W...QQcmdZViewItem

Which makes sense since most of the new cars have the climate controls and HU in one piece. AS well as some other things.

Don't ever look at cars as just imports or domestics. Just because a car is made in a certain country doesn't mean that it is anything like another car from that country. An example of this is Mitsubishi reliability, just because they are Japanese doesn't mean that they are as reliable as a Honda or Toyota.

I was just looking for an example. And thats a really big surprise basterds charged me 16 for a damn harness i could have gotten at wally world for 8. They can charge what they want as long as they pay me good when i get in the install bay.

Re: CD won't eject or play

^^ Yeah generally you can find wiring harnesses for cars between $7-$20. However, there are some cars (some Mercurys in the late 90's, some newer GM's) that require very spendy harnesses. And then there are some vehicles (ie. mid-80's GM trucks/suv's) that require a dash cut. Some cars just get the shaft when it comes to car audio.

Like the early 90's buick regal. I had to duct tape the damn thing to the bottom of the dash. But it worked so i couldnt complain.

The one for my blazer needed some plastic crap to make it look normal.

Re: CD won't eject or play

There is definitely something screwed up in the insides. You probably got a thing stuck or something!
