I have a 1997 Mercury Sable - It has a factory cd changer located in the trunk. My question is: When I put CD s in the changer and try to play them I get a message that says, bad cd. How do I fix this problem? It happens with every CD I try to play.

Re: Cd changer problem
I have already tried that - but thanks. The owner's manual is very vague and not much help. Thanks.

Re: Cd changer problem
I would assume you have tried using a cd-lens cleaner (cd).

(Not sure if this thread is still active...)
I ran into the same problem about a month and 1/2 ago, one day the CD player started skipping, then it said every CD was "Bad CD" with the owner's manual and AllData manuals saying NOTHING about it other than the obvious, which isn't true. And no, they were not in backwards. I ended up taking the CD player unit apart, which there wasn't much to get into, mostly taking the covers off, looking it over, and putting the blasted thing back together while fighting with the shock absorbers inside it. Turned it all back on and IT WORKED!? Ok I did nothing actually to fix it, just opened it up and put it back together. Wierd... However today it started to do the skip and then it went to BAD CD again. I pulled the carpet back and checked the wires first before tearing it open, unplugged and reconnected the data cables. But no fix there. Anyone else open to suggestions? I'm gonna rip it open tomorrow if I get a chance. Thx... Joe |
