A few tips that will save you money on a "99 Rodeo V6
1. Clunking while accelerating or shifting gears(automatic).
A. Need to grease driveshaft spline at the front near the transmission. 1(a) unbolt the driveshaft and put on a workbench. Break off the front clamp that holds the rubber boot. Clean all that old grease out. 1(b) Synthetic grease ONLY High Temp..slick50 grease works well. Pack it FULL into the spline and boot. 1(c) You need 2 large screw clamps. Mate the clamps so it makes one large clamp. Clamp the boot back on. Make sure the screws are opposite one another or your driveshaft will be unbalanced. 1(d) Re-install the driveshaft and should be good to go. 2. Put on a serpentine belt...no tools needed. 2(a) Run the serpentine belt to diagram without going over the top idler pulley. 2(b) Grab the belt on either side of the top idler pulley and pull upwards. Leverage will provide enough slack to place belt on top idler. 3. Belt is a groove off after cranking. A. Most likely the fan pulley bracket bushing slid forward on it's shaft.(remove belt) 3(a) Remove the 4 nuts holding on fan/clutch/pulley. 3(b) Unbolt the 3 holding the fan bracket support. 3(c) Place the fan support on a flat surface with a small piece of wood underneath to support the bearing. 3(d) Use an appropiate sized socket and hammer to tap the bushing back into it's origional position then tack weld(remember balance). 3(e) replace Just all my honest opinion...Steve |
