disabling chimes

Howdy!
I've looked back over the pages and didn't see mention of disabling chimes. Leaving the key in the ignition when exiting or driving away without belts on always triggers the chimes and I find it annoying. I can't tell where the chime is located. Any suggestions?

Re: disabling chimes

Welcome to AF.

OK, looking at your profile I see you have a 99' GA.

You can not disable the chimms. But you can make it quieter.
You will need to remove the glovebox to access the Body Control Module(BCM).
5 - 7mm screws/bolts hold the glove box in.

After that is removed you will see something like this, BCM.

The BCM slides to the right to come out.
You can tape up some of the holes around the BCM to dampen the sound.

OR if you feel confident enough pop the BCM apart.
Inside you will see the tiny round black cylinder which is the speaker for the chims.
Put a piece of elevtrical tape on top of that speaker.

Also Becarefull not to damage the wires on the BCM,
as those metal edges in that area are sharp and can nick/cut the wire casings.

And Discharge any static electricity you might have by touching something metal before you touch teh BCM, as static can kill the BCM and they are very expensive, from the dealer.

Hope that helps.
