It's a beautiful world.

I bought a book a while back from goodwill filled with old newspaper photos. I decided to scan some which have made me think.

Everytime I've seen this photo I've had to wonder who this person was, who their family was, who their friends were, what they wanted in life.
Further, who decided to remove their head and prop it up for a photo?

I wonder what this person wanted from life. Probably not to end up like this.
Probably no good reason he ended up like this anyway. He was obviously done in because some people who he never met disagreed with eachother.

Her child would die shortly after this picture was taken.

This one also died.

This one survived, at least for a bit longer than the other two.

It's a beautiful world we live in.

Re: It's a beautiful world.

awwwww..........fuck it, I won't be sleeping tonight...........

These photos were all first published in Life Magazine.

As a parent, I find pics of the children especially distressing.

For what ever reason the soldiers has at least some free will and was in the business of harming others, which makes their loss... not justified, but not quite so distressing.
The children are different............. all children deserve the protection and consideration of any adult, regardless of circumstances.

IMO if the world was run by responsible mothers, there would be no war.

Re: It's a beautiful world.

What about all the positive, happy pictures of the world out there? You can't just look at the negative and assume the worst. Yeah, those pictures are sad and depressing, but that's not everything.

And death is necessary in the 'circle of life'. Everyone dies, some are just meant to leave the earth before others. And I believe that war serves a practical purpose for the human race. War may not be pretty, but its a biological control. It controls (in a loose sense) the population. Its humanity's own artificial selection. Think about it, not that its a great thing, but if there were no wars, then the earth will be closer to the brink of overpopulation than it already is. Let's face it, resources are limited and can only support so many. So while war is sad, the natural result isn't the worst thing.

I never said they were depressing. It actually who the people might have been which is the more important question to me, not how they died (I know they died in war). And the question of head removal for photographing...

I'm not quite sure that explanation of war makes any sense, I'm not really sure I'd be able to find any proof to actually back it up.

Re: It's a beautiful world.

shit happens. sure stuff's messed up but you can't really do anything to stop it. sure you can try to stop wars and conflicts but there will always be someone messed up enough to do some sick stuff that sickens us all. just hope it doesn't happen to you or anyone you know and live in blissful ignorance. no point in worrying over what you can't change. i know it sounds depressing, i DO feel for those people but i don't dwell on it because there is nothing i can do about it. i can make my little contribution but ultimately it won't change much. i will try to change stuff but it won't accomplish much. you just have to console yourself in the fact that you did your part and don't worry that this stuff still happens because it always will.

The proof is in the past, and its also based off of common sense. Not to be cruel, but look at how many died as a result of the years leading up to and including World War II. Some 6 million people were killed just in the death camps. Definately not a good thing, but if it didn't happen, that's an extra 6 million people plus their produced offspring, just in one continent. Not to mention the a-bombs dropped in Hiroshima and Nagasaki, whick killed around 80K and 60K respectively. And that's an already crowded country. If everyone just died of old-age, we'd be populating the moon already. Like I said, artificial selection in a sense.

And that little 'theory' is just my opinion...don't want people taking it the wrong way and getting their panties in a bunch.

Six million people is nothing. We still have several BILLION more people on this planet now than we did before WWII.

So then how come there are countries, which without any war, or other such disasters, where the population has evened out, or is actually shrinking?

I don't think anything short of full blown mutually assured atomic destruction would have any significant impact on the human population over any long run of time.
