I need help. this may sound different

Where I live there are a lot of people who race cars on the quarter mile strip on the street. I used to until one day in bad weather I wrecked my car while not racing, I was on my way to school. Now I drive a Chevy silverado, but I can still race it becaouse there is aldo a large number of truck races where I live, mostly shevy silverado, ss, and fford sport, or lightning. I race my truck even though it's all stock, and only a v6. but its quick for a six its been wrecked and after it was fixed somethongs that I don't know about may have been changed but anyhow it's quick and good to race for a quarter mile drag. I was going to put a cold air intake system in it that was made by K&N, but decided not to yet, I'm low on cash and was wondering if anyone had any ideas on how I can make my truck quicker for very cheap.

thanks for your help. ???????????????

Hmmm...wrong section, but I'd say you have the right idea with the K&N CAI.

Re: I need help. this may sound different

I would bet theres a chip that would do it somewhere. Do a google search on performance upgrades for your model truck and engine.....I had a friend back in the day witha 96 GMC Sierra had the 6 in it. He put an exhaust on it and an K&N drop in and it sounded real good and was pretty peppy as well.

make it quick for cheap, do some serious weight reduction

that out anything you dont need, back seat, a/c, etc etc,

cost , free and you might even make some if you sell what u take out

or just looks at what slowprocess has done

Re: I need help. this may sound different

slow process swapped engines and did almost everything you could, without turning the truck into a pure racing truck, if i recall.

i think his block alone costs a pretty penny.

time for a af search!

edit - this alone is takin from his sig and i cleaned it up a tad :

Mods-swapped in 02 6.0L,
TR224 cam,
Ported/Polished heads
Comp 918 springs,
3800 stall,
built 4l60e,
Eaton Posi 3.73 gears,
LT1 electric fans
nelson harness,
Nelson tune,
Hoosier 28x11.5x15s,
4 in intake,
dual magnaflow exhaust with cutouts,
Thorley LT headers,
33lb injectors,
Walbro 255,
nx wet kit now jetted for the 200 hit

anyone have the guts to figure out how much that is total w/o directly asking him?

my guess is about 4.5k+. and im not counting the cost of the motor.

Re: I need help. this may sound different

Until you get better tires on it...leave the speed limiter.

Re: I need help. this may sound different

K. Thanx. I have a new set of high rated 454/75 series racing tires that are fixing to go on my truck. I went ahead and ordered the K&N, but still don't know what to do to cut off my speed limiter. Any other help, and tips will be greatly apprediated.

Thank You.

Re: I need help. this may sound different

Drive downhill.

Let's look at it this way. You have a v6 truck, which you were hesitant to put in an intake because it costs too much. Not to mention, you've already wrecked it once. I suggest keeping it stock and saving for something more competitive, and in the meantime perhaps getting more experience racing in a safe environment...like at a track. Basically power isn't cheap. If you have to worry about splurging for an intake, the truck isn't gonna get much faster on an after-school job budget.

However, if you are interested in getting more power out of your truck, as said above, I'd look at what Slowprocess has done to his. I'd also check out the show 'Trucks' on Spike TV, usually around noon or so on Saturday mornings. They sometimes do power modifications to the trucks, but they have alot of commercials as well for truck websites and such. I can think of bullydog.com off the top of my head. You can check out those websites and the shows 'Hot Parts' for ideas and general pricing. Just my .02
