02 Accord Brake Caliper Question

I replaced my front brake pads, and before I put the new ones back on, I accidentally pressed the brake pedal. My pistons didn't fall out, but they were way out and the rubber boot on the right one was not in the right place. I managed to push the left one back in with no problem, but the right one gave me some trouble, but after jiggling it around I was able to push it back right in. I put the pads, and bled the brakes accordingly. But then when I drove it later, the brakes felt spongy. My question is am I suppose to "seal" the rubber boot onto the piston? I checked it this morning and I could move the rubber boot and see brake fluid in the insided and around the piston... Is that normal? Or is the boot suppose to somehow be 'glued' to the piston? Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks
Nes

Re: 02 Accord Brake Caliper Question

It sounds like you pushed it out to far.I would get it inspected right away. This is a safety issue!

Re: 02 Accord Brake Caliper Question

Spongyness means there is air in your system or a leak, make sure there is enough brake fluid in the resivour and possibly bleed the calipers again. When pushing the piston back into the housing make sure the bleeder screw is loose so that the dirt will not go back up into the system and to answer your question, the rubber boot goes onto the piston by a lipseal, should be a little trench on the piston that the boot falls into.

Re: 02 Accord Brake Caliper Question

Thanks for your input. I bled the brakes again, and they feel better, however, I think there is a leak somewhere, but I don't see any fluid around the rim or even the caliper. Anyone think the air might have gotten into my master cylinder?
