Revell Ferrari 250 GTO new model

Hi, just found that on the Revell germany website, they bring out a Ferrari 250 GTO in summer
Ferrari 250 GTO
Does anyone know if this is a new kit or just a reboxed one from another company?

It's the Italeri molds which Revell now own...so it's a good kit. I hope they update the tires but that's too much to ask I'm sure.

Hello,
I'm not shure it is the Italeri kit, can be the Protar one, which was better than the Italeri One.
By the way, Revell does not own the moulds, it's a sort of Lease....;
Cheers,

Jamme

The Protar kit is horrible compared to the Italeri, Protar's is heavy handed and not as good of proportions.

Not horrible... it's just a good kit, well detailed, the problem is on openable doors and hoods fiiting and in proportions: inlt in those italeri stuff is better. Italeri give same tyres front and rear and horrible rims, Protar tyres aren't so bad and wire rims decent, to be plastic stuff.

BTW I guess the re-release should be the protar stuff. Protar moulds is owned by Italeri that have a partnership with Revell.

Re: Revell Ferrari 250 GTO new model

You guys must have missed this thread.
http://www.automotiveforums.com/vbul...d.php?t=658579

All 250GTO kits have pros and cons. Italeri's body has some problems, especially the sides around the doors are too flat, while Protar and Gunze are curved as they should.
I've been wanting to make the '64 body using Mini Exotic transkit, so a reasonably-priced Italeri 250GTO is quite nice.

Re: Revell Ferrari 250 GTO new model

I'm just glad to be able to get ANY "affordable" 250 GTO again.. I mean, those ebay Gunze kits are nice for people that aren't strapped for cash..

...albeit Italeri had its own 250GTO moulds.
So the Revell re-box might be either the ex-Protar or the "real" Italeri one. Life can be complicated at times!

Re: Revell Ferrari 250 GTO new model

Perhaps I misunderstood, but I talked to Ed Sexton of Revell at the Ferrari swap meet in Chicago a few weeks ago and I thought he said Revell Germany was reissuing the Italeri 250 GTO.

Re: Revell Ferrari 250 GTO new model

This is <not> what to expect from the the Revell Germany's upcoming 250GTO, which is <not> the Italeri tool <but actually the Protar tool, darn it!>.
FYI, The better Italeri body is made up of 8 pieces and the hinge parts. The kit includes the engine and complete suspension details.

The chassis and interior are well-detailed. This Italeri kit came with a bonus Ferrari pin.

This is another model, which's been dry-fitted. The body is fairly accurate, but there're some problems, which I'll discuss later.

The engine details are more than adequate for a mass-produced plastic model.

Close-up of the interior.

Front and rear suspension details.

Italeri's spokes are not as thin as the Protar's, but that's because Protar is unusual, and Italeri wheels look fair.

The biggest problem of the Italeri kit is the side of the body--it's too flat. The Gunze body is curved as it should, but it's still not close to the real one.

Here's a body comparison from the top. The Italeri looks most neutral of all. The Protar kit is slightly smaller, but it features opening hood, doors and trunk lid. The Gunze body looks voluptuous, and lacks elegance of the real car, but some people might like it that way.

The Italeri (top) and Gunze (bottom) kits look alright from this angle. Protar kit doesn't have the fog lights, and it could represent 3527GT or 3581GT, but I'm not certain.

The bottom rear of the Protar kit is really bad, but, but it can be easily rounded by filing and sanding. The biggest problem of the Gunze kit is its rear wheel arch. On the real car, it's a compound curve, but Gunze exaggerated it too much, and looks inaccurate.

So, is the Italeri kit worth it? I'd say definitely, especially without a mark-up.

Re: Revell Ferrari 250 GTO new model

Thanks for that, i think that the Italeri one is probably on par just as good as the Gunze one, i had the gunze and i noticed that its fairly similar to the italeri one!

Apart from the photo etch most of the kit contents look similar!
