Passlock theft system

I have a 99 2.2L Cav. I was having problems with the theft system acting up (sometimes start, sometimes not). I found a quick fix around this. When the car started, I unhooked the plug going from the key cylinder to the ICM. Now the car starts everytime no problem. However, now while driving the theft system light is always on. (does not bother me)

Does anyone know if this is, bad for the car, or is going to cause other some other problem?? (ex. PCM related)

Re: Passlock theft system

plug everything back in...

disconnect the battery
leave it unconnected for 10 minutes
re-connect the battery
Open your door, leave it open
start your car - doesn't start
leave the key in your ignition, in the start postion
leave your car alone for 20 minutes
go eat some chips, go to the bathroom, write a poem...something for 20 minutes
go back and see if your theft light has stopped blinking yet
if so then take the keys out and start the car normally...
if not, repeat....

Thank-you for your reply Derk, no one else seems to want to tuch the passlock threads. I have tried all the re-learn techniques including your recomendations above. My dealer even replaced the key cylinder (no change). Now, they are telling me its the ICM ($400-$450) for rebuilt one. From other forums I have read, people who were having the same problem, have replaced key cylinder, ICM, and even the PCM with no change. I don't wan't this to be me.

My main concern is not how to fix the passlock problem, but rather if driving with the key cylinder/ICM wire unhooked is harmful.
